And as the band trade off instruments, swapping song writing and vocal duties, and generating powerful song writing in concussive bursts, Die Spitz have created their own little pocket of the world where we can all stand on the edge together.<br \/><br \/><em><a href=\"https:\/\/livemusicblog.com\/rock\/punk-rock\/die-spitz-something-to-consume-debut-album-third-man-records\/\">Something to Consume<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>moves with rapturous conviction thanks in part to the deft production hand of Studio 4\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Will Yip (Turnstile, Mannequin Pussy)<\/strong>. The group was initially just looking to find reasons to hang out more often, and decided to start a band after a late-night viewing of the M\u00f6tley Cr\u00fce movie\u00a0<em>The Dirt<\/em>. Though they\u2019ve only been playing together a few years (not to mention Halter only learning to play bass to start the band),\u00a0<em>Something to Consume\u00a0<\/em>shows a maturity and technical prowess always wielded in service of their profound friendship.<br \/><br \/>The group settled on the name Die Spitz over a\u00a0\u201cbrown bag of Fireball\u201d, opting for the feminine German definite article in place of the English.\u00a0\u201cIt reminds me of the Grim Reaper spitting\u201d, Livingston jokes. At their first live shows, they paired originals with covers from some of their inspirations: Black Sabbath, Pixies, Mudhoney, PJ Harvey, and Nirvana. The beguiling &#8220;Pop Punk Anthem&#8221; somehow encapsulates elements throughout that large musical swath, building from roiling verses to a growled chorus.\u00a0\u201cIt may sound like a love song at first, but when the beat kicks in it\u2019s the obsession that takes over\u201d, Schrobilgen says.\u00a0\u201cThe words \u2018you\u2019re a part of me\u2019 sound loving but it can be an insane emotion and privilege over someone else\u2019s life.\u201d<br \/><br \/>Across 11 tracks,\u00a0<em>Something to Consume\u00a0<\/em>contains multitudes and yet feels of a singular piece, an expansive and expressive set unified in its camaraderie and freedom.\u00a0\u201cWe depend on our freedom\u2014freedom to do what we want, present the ideas we want, make the music we want\u201d, Livingston says.\u00a0\u201cWhether it\u2019s based in metal or something soft, no matter which of us wrote the song, we all contribute and work together.
